I had to post again after getting so many great comments on the last post. Would you believe I didn't even want to post it after I wrote it. But of course my sister Chelette had already posted it before I could make some corrections. I was being critical and thinking I made upteen mistakes. I think I just got out of practice. I would like to blog more often but I always ask myself if it's blogworthy enough. I just realized I need to remember why we started this blog. To keep a journal of our progress as we continue on this journey to become more proficient at this craft we love so much, KNITTING♥
It never ceases to amaze me how awesome it is to connect with others around the globe through this process of blogging. We have met some really wonderful people. And we wanted to thank all of you who have decided to take the time to read or comment here. I can't thank you enough for how much you have lifted our spirits and made our day♥ I am hoping that we will continue on this fabulous journey of sharing and exchanging ideas together.
As you all know there are many new podcast and video cast on the horizon. I often thought that this would be something I would love to do, but I can't see myself doing it long term. I would however love to give it a try. I am thinking about it and my sister Chelette is of course edging me on. She has been saying it for years, "We should do a podcast". With some many of them these days, maybe it's a good time to give it a try. I think it's a brave and courageous step to take on. We shall see how far we get. I think the first step is putting it out there. So I have done that and now let's see what comes next.
Maybe the next time you will see us LIVE♥ or maybe I am just rambling on after having a fabulous nap.

It's That Time Again

Yes! it was time again to meet up with the KnitGirllls and Wendy . I can hardly believe its been a year since they were here @ Fibre Space. We had a great evening of chatting and catching up. We also were just in time to fondle the new Brooklyn Tweed American-made yarn LOFT. Lisa of FiberNymph came down . Laura's sister Becky also made the trip down from Pennsylvania. Many locals like Space Junk(Amy) stopped by to hang out and knit. Danielle and the Fibre Space crew were all there.

Then on Saturday Arthella, Chelette and I were able to catch the play "Loose Knit". It was the last night at the Waddell Theater in on the campus of Northern VA Community College in Sterling Virgina. Once a week in the heart of New York City five women gather to knit. The play outlines the battle between the sexes with wit, ferocity and insight in a contemporary comedy of manners. If this play comes in your town, please go see it. We really enjoyed it.We have been busy trying to get some projects off the needles. I finished Summer Flies. Chelette just finished Ceraisfera. As the year comes to a close we are trying cut down on purchases and reduce our stash. Of course it's easier said than done. There are so many beautiful yarns to choose from.

Yes this is it!!!! A new post finally. Even though months have passed and I haven't posted here, our thoughts are still on all the wonderful people we have met through this blog. Of course I have written a post many times in my  head but not taken the time to write it down. We missed our 3rd Blogiversary. Many events have come and gone. Thanksgiving has even passed us by. Christmas is just around the corner. We have gotten our yearly Christmas card from the Meir Family already (thanks Carol, Loved it! ).
It's funny how certain things tend to get overlooked. Let's just say, we are still happily doing our favorite things:  knitting  and buying yarn(not so much), we even caught the 6am sale at Fibre Space on Black Friday. It was a blast.
I decided it was time to catch up on things, including this blog. Chelette just had minor surgery. She is doing well and I am here with her for a few days to help out. We have had fun knitting and playing with patterns and yarn. She and I both finished a few already started projects. Now, if only I could have another week off from work, I could really get some knitting done. Of course that isn't possible, back to work as usual on Monday.

We have decided that we are going to use this post to announce a "Give A Way" for all those events we missed and a thank you to everyone who have visited us in the past.
All you have to do is place a comment on this post telling us how long you have been reading this blog and how you discovered us...

We have to give honor to our DAD today.. Nelson P. Johnson. Hard to believe its been 8 years -- 8 years sounds like a long time but because you are so close in our everyday thoughts it seems like you never left us.... We both know that our creative side definitely comes from you.

Dad enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was passionate about so many things. He was a gardener, photographer, general contractor, and entertainer who enjoyed laughter and the lighter side of life. His curious nature led him to study birds, animals, people and politics.

We think of you often, but that is nothing new. Your memory is a keepsake, from which we will never part. God has you in his arms~We have you in our hearts.

Okay, this makes two blog post in a week, for me... This one is thanks to Alicia for awarding us the Versatile Blogger award. I so didn't expect anything like this. I admit that I was wondering when and what the next post was going to be. She made it easy for me. I do have a post that I should had already done and is long overdue, but I will get to that later.

..... Here goes:

1. I would have to start with I am somewhat of a monogamous knitter. I have tried knitting different projects at once but, I don't like it very much. Especially if it is a new project. Right now I am doing the EveryWay Wrap. It is my first and the first time I have done so many cables at once. I like it a lot and it looks like its going to take me forever. In the beginning when I first started knitting I would start a few projects at a time. And because of that I still, to this day have a few that I have not finished. I have halted all new projects and I am trying to get them completed before I start anything else (this does not included socks or my favorite pattern 198yards of Heaven Shawl)

2. Since that was so long, I'll make this short. Most everyone that knows me knows that it's no secret that I Love CHEESE.(so now you all know too) I can't think of anything that I would not want to put cheese on(probably chocolate). I guess my favorite would be Havarti. (Alicia did you notice we have this in common♥our love for cheese that is). I think I could make a whole post about cheese,but I won't bore yall with that at this time)

3. I am a little obsessed right now with True Blood(Isn't it a bummer we have to wait a whole year for the next one:((. The Colony. I find this show fascinating, but I am having a hard time believing these people are taking this so seriously. The Real Housewife's of DC. I guess I love it because its all about DC and what goes on behind the scenes♥

4. I love photography and have become obsessed. I just acquired my first SlR camera. I am having fun. Chelette and I are going to have a private lesson of Downtown DC. I am so looking forward to it. I promise to share my photos with all of you. (I know Libby will appreciate this one).

5. I am no good at directions. I have to go to a place a couple of time before I can remember it. I can get lost so easily. Thank goodness for my GPS. Although they can lead you astray or take you the longer route if you don't know where you are going. All in all, I think I would be totally lost without it.

6. I think that taking showers are the cure for many ailments. I love the way a shower makes you feel. If you have a headache take the hottest shower you can stand. If you have pain, a hot shower can make you feel sooo much better. My favorite is to take a shower then go workout, walk or yoga. You will feel like a million bucks when you start to perspire. I love that feeling.

7. I have a green thumb. I have always loved different plants and flowers. My dad taught me almost everything I know. My dream job would be to work in a plant shop with Orchids, which are my favorite. Most people don't know that Orchids are really not hard to care for at all. In fact I think they can be one of the easiest to maintain.The key is in the watering, in my opinion.

It's about time

Hello everyone. I know you are agreeing with me. It's been way to long. I have written a post in my head a couple of times. I even started a draft. All I know is that it's true what they say about time. It stops for no one. The summer has flown by. Fall is just around the corner. It feels like before you know it, winter will be here. Okay enough of the this pity party about why I haven't blogged. I wanted to share this past weekends outings♥
We had the opportunity to visit the new Looped Yarn Works in Wash. D.C. and liked it very much.

The space was beautiful and it had a lot of light and gorgeous yarns displayed nicely throughout the store.

They carry a nice selection of yarns. Malabrigo, Berocco, Koigu, Rowan, Frog Tree, Classic Elite, SWTC, Blue Heron and Tilli Tomas," Just to name a few. They also have some staples like Cascade 220.

Then on Monday, I found out that The KnitGirllls LaLa and Les were going to be at Fibre Space, sooooooo we went to meet them. It was fun to see them in person and hang out and knit with them just like on the Video cast. They were staying with Wendy, so it was my chance to meet her as well. We had a great time while they were waiting around to catch their flight back home. Thanks Les and LaLa♥ It was nice to meet you and see you in person. I know my friend Bev would have loved to been there to meet you in person too.

☼ Happy Summer ☼

Hello Everyone. Yes we are alive and well. The summer is moving right along. I just wanted to let everyone know that we haven't forgotten about this blog. It has just not been a priority of late. We have been busy knitting and busy with life. We had a graduation, two Birthday's(mine and Chelette's) and a vacation since our last post. There has been knitting going on as well, just not as fast as we would like. We have decided we have to stop buying yarn and start knitting more♥(sounds good anyway) We are doing a KAL for the Everyway wrap , I am also working on Spring Foward socks in Woolmeise(Zenzi) and Chelette is working on another Rusted Root .

This has already started to be one of the hottest year's on record, not just here on the east coast but all over the Globe, India, Australia, Brazil, Eastern Europe and Asia. So we are trying our best to stay as cool as possible. We finally got some rain on Saturday. The grasses and plants could sure use it. It has started to rain just now as I am writing this post. YaY!

Last Thursday we made our first visit to The Manning's in Bristol Pennsylvania. Only about 2 hours away. We went up early in the morning. Our good friends Jana and Diane are going to be leaving the area, so we thought this would be a great way to spend time together before they leave us. We made a stop at The Woolstock Yarn Shop in Glyndon, Md on the way home. It is a cute shop with lots of yarn and they carry a large selection of koigu. The highlight of our trip was Sydney's Restaurant, located right down the road from The Manning's. The food was gourmet and quite delicious. Definitely worth the trip.

Okay not to much at once here. I will tell you that we are having a blogiversay coming up soon and there will be giveaways(Woolmeise) so stay tuned about that in a up coming post. We decided that our yarn stash is starting to get out of hand, so why not share it ♥ Happy Summer~

Great Weekend Getaway at MDSW

We knew it was going to be a great weekend becuause it started with the arrival of our new toy.
This was our third year attending the Maryland Sheep and Wool festival and this time we decided to make a weekend event and stay at the Hilton as we were celebrating our birthdays. True we only live an hour away, but my sister always loves the opportunity to spend a night away from home.

We arrived at the fairgrounds around 10 am. The weather was the biggest damper --can you say HOT. The high humidity and temperatures were pretty unbearable at 9am in the morning. I am sure this helped us save some money. The traffic this year seemed to be really bad too, by noon our good friend Cheryl sat in traffic for over an hour and decided to turn around because it was not moving.

The one thing that seemed to be missing was a Ravelry meetup -- not to mention I completely forgot about the Podcast meet up which I was really looking forward to. Of course there were plenty of us Raveler's there and I had my camera in tow and was prepared to get some great Kodak moments. More photos came be seen here.

All and all it was a great weekend getaway, what more can you ask for .. We finished off the weekend with dinner on Sunday at the Iron Bridge Wine Co. Resturant

Don't forget that this Saturday is the " Stamp out Hunger Food Drive". Postal customers wishing to donate food should put canned, packaged and non-perishable food items in a plastic bag, and leave it by your mailbox on Sat., May 8th, before mail delivery.

MSWF here I come

Hello everyone. One more day and MSWF will be happening. I have a dilemma this year. It is not my scheduled day off. I put in for leave a few months ago. I was approved, but during the time since I put in the leave slip, I got a new boss. My old boss put it down on the calendar. I decided to make sure it was still happening, since she had left. To my surprise, she did NOT give me May 1st, but did approve May 3rd through the 8th. The reason I put the whole week was, so I would specifically get May 1st which is not my Saturday off. If you put in for one day it is usually disapproved. We have been shorthanded for quite awhile. So to get a day off is very difficult. I also don't have a substitute. Thus I have been working my days off which is every other Saturday a lot.

I haven't had any vacation time off this year. So, I can't miss MSWF, what to do???(yikes). My only option as I see it is to call out, which in 20 years I have only done once. I don't know why it seems like such a big deal to me. Everybody does it. I have been trying to think why I don't want to do it. The more I think about it the more I think I have to do it. So this Saturday I WILL be calling out. The good part is. I am off the following week, so when I come back to work on the 10th maybe they will have forgotten all about it.
My main reason for not wanting to call out is it puts the pressure on the substitutes and they have to cover for me, plus do their own route. I have seen the Post Office down several routes in one day. It's stressful, but they always work it out. This time will be no different. I guess I am trying to convince myself of this. What can they do?? fire me???NOT! I guess I am using the blog as my sounding board and trying to be okay with calling out and enjoying my time at MSWF.
I am glad none of my co-workers read my blog. And please don't tell them. It will be our little secret♥

My good news is, that I am a grandma♥ to a 8 pound 7 ounce baby boy born yesterday at 5:20p.m. I am excited and happy for Monte and Sandra. He was in the delivery room the whole time and assisted in the birth. I know he's going to be a good Father. Congratulations SON♥

In other news.
I am still busy working away on the same shawl since March. I have done 3 repeats and have decided to make it even bigger since Chelette found me 5 more skeins of it at A Tangled Skein YAY!
Chelette is getting ready to work on her third shawl. She is also about to finish Rusted Root. She completed Milkweed last month.
We both are presently on a yarn diet. No more yarn until MSWF(May 1st). So far so good. Only 21 more days to go. I hope the weather is better this year. Last year their was a lot of rain and mud. Chelette was sick and really didn't buy anything last year. This year we will be attending the Ravelry After Party. There's also going to be a Podcaster/listener Meetup that I am looking forward to. Hope to see some of you there♥

Designer Shirley Paden is Coming

Once an executive in the corporate world, Shirley Paden left it all behind 15 years ago to pursue a career in knitwear design. Today Shirley is the owner and founder of Shirley Paden Custom Knits in New York City. She teaches master knitting classes for the fashion industry and conducts seminars on lace, entrelac, cables, color knitting, and finishing techniques. Her designs have been published in Interweave Knits, Vogue Knitting, and Knitter’s magazines and she was the subject of a profile in 2004. She has been a guest on public television’s Knitting Daily TV (2010). Knitwear Design Workshop is her first, much-awaited book. She lives in New York City.

My friend Melodye and Annece have joined forces as 2 Kraz Knitters and will be presenting Shirley Paden the author of Knitwear Design Workshop: A Comprehensive Guide to Handknits (Interweave, 2010) on June 4 – 5, 2010 in Baltimore, Md.

Here is an excert from Melodye's blog:
The weekend includes a book signing and talk, Friday night starting at 6. On Saturday there will be an all day workshop with Shirley working through the principles in her book. There will be a short break for lunch and you’re asked to bring your lunch. We’ll provide beverages and desserts.

Friday evening is free, but you must have your own copy of the book and R.S.V.P. not later than May 28, 2010. I haven’t seen the book locally, but I know Amazon has it.
You may attend the book signing without attending the workshop. Once paid, there will be no refunds but substitutions will be allowed.

Can you even believe it! One month since the last post. Where does the time go??? Here we are three months into the new year and I feel like I can't even keep up. I know that all the snowfall that we've had this year has a lot to do with it. I ended up with aches and pains that I am still trying to recover from. I have been knitting ever chance I can get. I am currently working on the 198 yds of Heaven Shawl. I have started it in a few different yarns, trying to see which one I like best. I am also trying to finish some already started(and should have been finished by now) projects .
Here on the east coast Spring has sprung. We had a gorgeous week weather wise. I am so happy to have spring. It was up in the high 60's and low 70's all week. It has almost made me forget about the trying winter that we just had.

Yesterday we attended our second HomeSpun Party in Savage Mill. It was a blast. I enjoyed seeing some of the same vendors from last year. Our favorites were Folktale Fibers, Cosy Knits, and of course The Sanguine Gryphon. We met up with Arthella and Cheryl and got there around 11am and was able to get a good spot in line with only a few in front of us. I always enjoy seeing what everyone is working on. We never mind waiting when we have our projects with us. The doors opened around Noon and we headed over to Sanguine to see if there was any Bugga♥ and their was...we Scored! Everyone had the same idea and within seconds it was a mad house grabbing all the yarn. I am very happy with my 3 skeins of Bugga(I started out with 5). Chelette scored 6 skeins of Bugga. Next stop was Cosy Knits. She has the most beautiful handspun. Then off to Folktale. Once I visited all my favorites, I then could take my time and visit some of the other vendors. I loved being outside on the porch where the weather was simply beautiful.

The best part was seeing some of my favorites peeps. My hat goes off to BunnySquirrel for all her hard work. This year was a big success. I hope she was able to get some sleep after-wards.
It's always nice to Somebunnyslove, and Jessica they was working really hard. I soon ran into Carol, Evelyn, Ava, Shelly and Sandra, Connie, Barbara, Deb, and Deb, Debbie and Susan, Deb, Jana, Tiaree, Melodye, and Pam, Karida and Jillsey, and Jennifer. I am sure I have forgotten to mention someone.

I was pretty good at not over buying yarn this year. I am going to wait until MDSW before I buy anymore yarn.(that's the plan anyway). I'll let you know how it goes.

I guess you could say I have been way behind in posting, sorry about that. I really need to get caught up. And when I find my camera that has been lost for months now, I will post some pictures of our latest projects.

Enough Already / Happy Love Day

♥♥♥HAPPY LOVE DAY!♥♥♥ Hiya everybody. I know, I know, it been awhile and I know you missed me:). I sure missed you. It has been a trying couple of weeks. I bet a lot of you are probably sick of snow, I know I sure am. Can you believe how much snow has fallen in the past few weeks?? I heard that 49 out of 50 states have snow on the ground. I don't remember in my lifetime if the government has ever shut down 4 days in a row. It has been a challenge for many of us. They are calling for more snow on Monday, but nothing like we've had. Accumulation, only a couple of inches is forecasted. Every time in the past that we've had snow, I was frightened and dreaded it. Hopefully, I' ve ended my fear of driving in snow and icy conditions. Many of you know that I am a mail carrier. This year has been one of my most challenging winters in all my 2o years of carrying the mail. I didn't think I was going to make it a few times, but thankfully I did survive and feel stronger because of it. Each day after delivering the mail, I would go home and rest up until for next day. I sure hope that we have seen the worst of it.

I have been doing some knitting and can't wait to show you my latest project.

Come on Springgggggg♥ I am so ready for it!

Mobil Giving

The Mobile Giving Foundation called it a "mobile-giving record" for funds raised for a single cause. Donations are rising swiftly. They are receiving up to 10,000 text messages per second. The foundation said more than $11 million has been donated.

Cellphone users can donate $5 to Haiti-born hip-hop musician Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund by texting the word "Yele" to 501501, or they can donate $10 to other nonprofit organizations, such as the American Red Cross, by texting the word "Haiti" to a specified number, like 90999. The donation is charged to a user's cellphone bill.

Wireless carriers Verizon Wireless, AT&T Inc, Sprint and T-Mobile USA, and a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, have waived fees for customers wishing to send mobile donations. Carriers are also letting users know they are not taking a cut of the donations.

This devastation will unfortunately be a lasting one. It will require years and years of rebuilding efforts. Let's support the Haitians in the rebuilding process.

Do What You Like/ All About Me???

How is everyones New Year going?? I have decided that, it's important to take time to do what you like. If you don't then someone will decide for you. I don't really do resolutions. I do try to think about what I would like to accomplish from time to time. I just have problem with long term goals. I am better at one step at a time. Looking back on 2009, I can't say I completed as many projects as I would have liked. I can't even give you an exact number. I can say I had fun knitting and I do have a few things to show for it.
I am hoping that 2010 is going to be an abundant year of finished objects. I am not good at doing more than one project at a time, is what I'm noticing. I tend to be a monogamous knitter. But when it comes to buying yarn, I think I am way to loose. At the present I am off the chain with more than I can possibly think of using up for at least years and years.
So I vow to not buy yarn until The Homespun Party coming in March. I have lessened my visit to yarns sites and shops, in hopes that I won't be tempted. I have some beautiful yarn in my stash and if I want to go shopping, all I need do is look into my stash. I am trying to figure out a way to display my yarn so that it's in my face sort-a-speak.

Today I pulled out this yarn and I am going cast on for a hat and hopefully finish it tonight. I am using the "One day hat" by The Rainey Sisters. It's a free pattern.

I asked Chelette to join me on the post because we were discussing this earlier. Here is her entry:

Cici and I are so connected-- she sent me a BBM text and it was exactly what I was thinking . We needed to do a new post about knitting more in 2010. Earlier today we were doing our new favorite thing --video chatting --via Oovoo. We went through our 2009 projects on ravelry. This of course got our minds to focus on projects we would like to complete in 2010. At first, I said I would do a list of things that I wanted to complete in 2010 and then I thought nooooooo our knitting is supposed to be fun, stress free and all about me.

As I looked back, I see that I knitted quite a few things for other people. Cici wanted to know what was the last thing I actually knitted for me? And I couldn’t even think of what it was –I said it was the Cherry Garcia hat, but then was reminded that was by default because it was originally for my daughter. So as I looked in my projects the last thing I have done for me was my Central Park Hoodie(CPH) which was finished in February 2009…….I will not focus on that revelation.

I just finished a hat for DH and let’s just say this is the very first item I have knitted for him.

Also, yesterday when DD and I were out she pointed out that she didn’t have any fingerless mitts….hint hint you have made 2 sets for other people. LOL… the guilt set in and off to LYS we went and got yarn for her fingerless mitts. The fingerless mitts will be done in a day or so. Then there's one sock that is hanging over my head which is a joint belated birthday project with Cici for our baby sister.
After those commitments THE FUTURE WILL BE DEFINITELY ALL ABOUT ME:)

Happy Birthday to our Mom, who celebrated her 85th birthday this past weekend. My mother is a plain and humble person, who doesn't like a lot of fuss or recognition. She would have never agreed to a party. So we had to make it a surprise.
She loves her family and is at her happiest when we can all be gathered together. Her second favorite thing to do is go to church. She has been a devote catholic all her life and never missed a mass. She has worked and served her Church for over 60 years. She is the best cook in the world and she enjoys gardening and flowers.
In her earlier years her main hobby was embrodery. She has done an excellent job raising her 6 children. We owe everthing to her! She has been our everything♥

We love you MAMA!!! Thank you for all you do! I know that I speak for all my brothers and sisters. She tells us she doesn't want another party until she's 90.

Hello all. Here on the east coast we experienced a major winter storm this past weekend. It is probably the worst I've seen since 2003. Its the snowiest December on record for DC. Nearly 2 feet of snow has piled up in MD/DC/VA.

It sure looks like a lot of folks have gotten their wish for a white Christmas. The federal government in DC was also closed today. So you know it must be bad. I know a lot of kids are happy for no school and Christmas being only a few days away, it's like a child's dream come true.

I would like t0 welcome to the blogging world a very good friend of mine. Her name is Cheryl. She has been featured here a few times. She just started her very first blog. Take a minute to go check her out. She has some beautiful and inspiring words. She is a new knitter and long time writer. Welcome Cheryl!!! I am so happy you have decided to join the world of blogging♥ I know you won't regret it♥

This past weekend with all the snow. I was able to get some knitting in. My daughter and I sat around all day on Sunday and had a knitting good time. My daughter was able to complete the Cherry Garcia Cowl. I continued to work on my Autumn Vines Stole and do the fabulous Jeny's stretchy bind-off for the Diagonal Lace koigu socks that I finished a couple of months ago. I had taken them a loose because I thought the bind-off was too tight. So now they turned out just perfect. I am loving this bind off♥ and will use it every time for toe up socks.

Chelette was also very busy knitting this past weekend. She completed the Marsan Watchcap for a friend of her daughter's. It turmed out really well. Photos to come soon.

Toe-up sock knitter's here it is, best news since Judy's Magic Cast-On. Ever since I started knitting socks from the toe-up binding off has been a challenge for me. Jeny Staiman has come to save the day! Jeny is a genious to come up with this one. Please try this technique, you will love it♥ Cat Bordhi, grande dame of sock knitting, made this video tutorial of Jeny's bind-off. Enjoy.

After doing research on the bind-off I also found that Jeny made a video of an accompanying cast-on. So I have added it here so that I can have it handy. Jeny says "It is the most elastic cast-on I know -- more elastic than the classic long-tail cast-on. And this one is not a long-tail cast-on so you don't have to worry about how much yarn to leave for the tail". Can you see the possibilites are endless with this one, cuffs and sleeves will be a ease.

Are You Ready?

Are you Ready? For Christmas that is :). I'm not. I've just been overwhelmed. I can't believe the long hours that I have been putting in this year. The Post Office has changed plants where our mail comes from and they have been sending us more letters than I have seen in 20 years.

So to think about shopping and preparing for Christmas feels like too much. I am hoping things will let up soon. The only good thing is that hopefully my paycheck might be fatter♥

And knitting?? What's that?? I haven't been able to knit all week :(

Here is Chelette's tree all ready to decorate. She says it was easy this year to pick one. Frazier Fur's this year are plentiful. Although they seem to be getting smaller.

Hope you all have time to do everything you need for Christmas. Right now I need to start planning for next Christmas, because this one is coming to fast for me♥

10 Great Things About the Holidays

1. Getting together with Family..this year will be especially grand because of our new family members Jeanette and Lil Marc

2. Having time off work... well atleast I get Christmas and New Years Day

3. receiving presents... not really exspecting that many since I have shortened my list

4. Decorating the Christmas Tree... A live tree is a must in our household(although I have found the best smelling candle that smells better than a real tree)

5. Egg Nog...this is the only time of the year I drink it. I hear StarBucks has one

6. Oysters... Well I guess by now everyone knows oysters are my favorite

7. More Church Services.. Love going to Church during the holidays

8. Buying presents...My list this year is shorter

9. Driving around to see Christmas Decorations...my mom and Kayla really enjoys this every year.

This is our first snow! I was so happy that I didn't have to work. I did go out and do a little shopping. There are only a few more shopping days left before Christmas. It was a perfect day to sit and knit and watch the snow fall. I have decided this year's Christmas i'm doing the bare minimum, Christmas has come to soon and I'm not feeling it.

My nephew Marc who is in the Navy will be coming home today from Hawaii and he will be bringing his son Little Ray( 6months old). We are anxious to meet him. It will be exciting for sure. Marc will be here for 2 weeks. Nerry his mom, my baby sister(1st time grandma) will be watching "Lil Ray" for a week until Jeanette(Little Ray's Mother, Marc's wife) arrives. It's going to be a great Christmas this year with the new family additions♥

Thanks for all your well wishes. I am feeling much better. I got lots of rest and took it easy all day. I am happy to report that I will be able to make it to work tomorrow.

Only one more day of this month and believe me, I am glad of that. I am proud of myself for being able to post most of the days. I only missed a few. Who knows maybe one of these years I can make it each day. I can tell you some of the days weren't easy. I struggled with what to write. I do think, that the more I do it, the easier it would become. I always think of my favorite quote "Practice is the mother of skill". Even though this blogs theme is about knitting, I found it hard to stick to just that. So I hope you haven't minded all the extra. I have used this blog as a way to keep the memories of what goes on in my life from time to time.

I would highly recommend blogging. The main and most important thing that I have gotten out of it is that the world must be getting smaller and as different as we all are, we are also the same. I can post and it can be read all over the world in minutes. We are all connected like a Human Web. Thus the friendships and communication made as a result of this blog is phenomenal. And that's a good thing:). I am thankful for each and everyone who has stopped by to see what's going on with the Sistahs. We appreciate your readership and look forward to a happy future♥

I've made it through another day and I am tired, sneezing, sore throat, achy body.. Guess it is full blown and official I have the flu. I took some Nyquil last night and going to do it again tonight. I did not get to knit at all today. My work load was heavy and I'm glad I made it through. Tomorrow will be a better day. Hope to get some rest, knit, do laundry and get ready for the new week.

Day 27......BLACK FRIDAY

Finally, I am helping my sister out with a post, sometimes we collaborate, but 95% of the time all of the credit goes to her and she does a fine job.

In all of my years, I have never ever gone out for Black Friday. It has never crossed my mind to get out the bed at 4:00 am for the madness. My record was broke today, because at 4:30 am I was on my way to the Black Friday sale at Fibre Space and a big THANKS goes out to Arthella, I dont think I would have gone if she had not offered to pick me up. I really could not believe that CiCi was not going with us, we tried to get her to go but she actually had to work. Everyone knows she would have been there first in line with camera in tow-- as her tshirt says "I am blogging this". So now I was charged with filling her shoes...wow those are some big shoes to fill. I am just glad I had my camera because when I talked to her she just could not believe I wasnt taking pictures. SURPRISE Sister.. you taught me well.

Arthella's goal was to arrive at 5 am and to be first in line......mission accomplished. I had no idea what we were going to do for the next chilly hour because the store was opening at 6am. Danielle had it all planned -- coffee and donuts for us to enjoy while we waited. It was a great way to start the holiday season off.

We ran into Susan, Barbara, Deb, Niki and even Olga was there-- ladies sorry to put you on blast, but it was great seeing you. It was lots of fun-- we went to breakfast afterwards....the Black Friday sale was very much worth it...would I do it again...OF COURSE... the things we do for yarn.

Sister here are a few pictures.. didnt get as many as I would have liked but I had to focus on my purchases... I didnt take pictures of my purchaes, maybe tomorrow. this was wayyyyy to much work. I got yarn to make 5 hats, 3 fingerless mitts and our lexie barnes needle cases... which I am very excited about. Sorry you could not join us, but we are going to make sure we get your vacay days scheduled for 2010 ASAP

I woke up this morning around 5:30 am in a frantic frenzy. Running around the house, scuffling to get myself in the shower get my bags together to load the car, grab a bite to eat and get out the door so that I wouldn't be late for work.. WORK ??WORK??... OMG... Today is Sunday... I can't believe I thought it was Monday. Thank God it's SUNDAY!!. I must have been in the twilight zone. I think this is what happens when you work to much without days off. This was my first weekend off in a long time.~~.yeah I know I was off work last week, but that doesnt count..~~

Yesterday we had another fabulous Knitting day. We went to Fibre Space to catch Miss Bab's. The store was packed with her yarn. I couldn't decid on a favorite. She even has cashmere roving. I know I don't spin but it sure is tempting. Mighty soft♥

Then we were lucky enough to be right down the street from Hank's Oyster Bar. You know I can't pass up Fried Oysters.. They were sooooo good.

Then it was off to Accokeek to hang out at Thella's house for a craft get together. Cheryl brought along her sewing matchine. Arthella had already cut out the project bags. We were on a mission. Cheryl had her Noni bag to work on. Chelette had her Cable Wrap and I had my Lace Stole. Before you knew it hours went by. We did complete one project bag. It was fun to get patterns and knitting supplies organized. We are already trying to plan when we can do this again♥

First we started out with dinner at Lauriol Plaza

then it was off to A Tangled Skein for the big sale

We surprised her with some goodies (yarn included of course)She was so surprised!

Last weekend we celebrated our friend Cheryl's birthday. We surprised her with a little celebration. She is a hard working mother of 3 children. She devotes all her time to raising them and finds time to enjoy her favorite hobby of knitting too. We started out with dinner at Lauriol Plaza, then we went to A Tangled Skein for their yearly sale. It was so much fun to see a lot of friends that we hadn't seen in awhile. Then we went to the Madison Loews Hotel for a night of room service and knitting to our hearts content. It was a blast to just relax and laugh and sit around in our pj's. I think we may be doing this again soon, because we had so much fun. It's good to just get away from your normal routine♥

Up early again!!! Just in time for a Wollmeise Update....YAY. Zeni is mine now.
Thank God it's Friday. It was a long week for me. I am happy to announce that I am off work this weekend Yippee!!!. It was rough after being off last week. Almost each night I came in from work and crashed. I have started this new habit of going to sleep early and waking up at midnight. I need to get back on schedule.

I am so happy Pam(Trillian42/ravelry) at Katydid Knits told me about Tom Bihn Bags. You are right, they are awesome and look so well made. I placed an order last night. They even have project bags. The clear cases are nice too. I think I heard about these long ago from It's A Purl Man's podcast, but had forgotten.

I didn't make it to Sit and Knit on Wednesday, I was too pooped. This is the time of the year when the work load becomes busy and heavier. I didn't get to knit much at all in fact. My Autumn Vine Stole is at a standstill. Hopefully this weekend when I catch up on my shows I can get some knitting in.

Day 19...Thinking Thursday

Thinking.....only because I have so much going around in my head right now. The main thing I'm thinking is where is all the time going. It literally is moving like the flash of an eye. It's beyond me how we got to November already.. Doesn't it seem like it was just summer?? I am sure yall are getting tired of hearing this from me. I must mention it every chance I get.
So hear we go with some random thoughts, I'm getting good at this LOL♥

How can it be there is only a month left before Christmas?? Every year I go through the same thing. I waited to late to get time off from work for the holidays. One of these days I am going to be on top of my game and put my leave in early.

I have so many favorite things right now. Let's see.... I love my wireless mouse. I never knew it would be so easy. I think the laptop is growing on me. I am even getting use to this 17 in screen. And this new Windows Home 7 Premium. It seems so much easier than XP. Who knows maybe next I'll be ready for a mac book. lol.

My other new favorite thing is my blue tooth. Plantronics H390. Mind you, I have tried upteen bluetooths and this one is the first one I am satisfied with. You can still hear with it on your ear. It doesn't give you that stuffed ear sound. I don't like wearing it when I'm not talking. It bugs me to have it in my ear, if i'm not on a call. Kinda feels like an ear plug.

Did I tell yall that my Gluten Free Red Velvet Cake and Carrot Cake turned out excellent. I have decided that the cupcakes and sheet cake are easiest. And the 3 layers work better than the 2.

With all the excitement of having a new grandchild. I'm crazy thinking of patterns. I have narrowed it down to a few though. I'll save that for another post. I am open for suggestions if anyone has any that they are head over heels about, but easy. I ♥ easy.

Confession time. I am discovering that I can be a shopaholic. Last night I looked at 50 pages of Laptop bags. In all those thousands of bags, I only liked 4 or 5. Who knew you could get a laptop bag in Ostrich Leather for $998. I didn't know it was going to be so hard to find one for this 17 inch. How about, my favorite one is Vera Bradley and it just isn't quite big enough. I like it so much I am willing to return the laptop and get a 14 or 15 just so I can get the Vera Bradley cover. I am trying to talk myself out of this. Surely I can find a messenger bag and get a nice sleeve that fits inside of the bag.

..When you play hookie from work just to stay home and knit…

…when instead of putting clothes in your drawers, you stash all your
yarn there to keep it extra close to you at night…. :-)

...When you need to replace a flat tire and you tell the guys at the tire store that
the bags of yarn and thrift store sweaters you’ve been meaning to unravel that
are crammed into the trunk are stuff you were going to drop off at The Salvation Army

….when you cut your hand and you scream in agony…not the pain but the

I got lucky again and didn't have to think to hard for a post. Today my son is 29 years old.I am so proud of him. He and Sandra are expecting there second baby in a few of months. I am looking forward to having a new grand child. I will be happy with either a boy or girl. It will be fun to knit little clothes. I am planning on making a blanket, but I'm waiting to see if we have a boy or girl♥

Day 13....First Timer

This is our first time ever knitting Intarsia. I love the colors together . Chelette has completely her's. It was fun to learn new techiques. Short rows, graphing and working with colors. My biggest problem was keeping the yarn untangled. There must be a better way. I didn't use the little bobbins. Both turned out to big, but I think we need to try another yarn. The yarn recommended was from Pear Tree Alpaca. We used Debbie Bliss Rialto, I want to make it again while it's still fresh in my head.

It's still raining here. I haven't minded it at all this week, reason being I am on
leave. Ordinarily I would mind if I was working. This week went by entirely to

Today, all day long it rained and was cold. I knitted on my stole and guess what??....I got a call
from my sister that I had a package with my new yarn YAY!!!! Then I got another call later
in the day that I had another package. This time it was my laptop. YAY!! In fact this is it♥.

It's going to take some getting use to. It's my first laptop. I don't know what took me so long, ~~well actually I do. I let my sister talk me out of it.~~ That's okay. I think I'm going to like it.
Although I haven't decided if I need this 17 inch screen or not. It weights 6 pounds, so that may
be a problem trying to lug around. I am looking forward to the convenience of being able to sit in
bed and be on the computer. I tested out Skye and it worked just fine. Now I just have to load
all my programs and music.

Well this day is running out and I need to get this post in before this day is over.

Here I go again, with minutes before midnight. Looks like if I don't get a post out first thing in the morning, I'm SOL. I didn't get as much knitting in today as I would have liked. Only about an hours worth or so. I did make a Red velvet cake today, and baked a chuck roast. It's been awhile since I made a GF Red Velvet Cake. I wanted to make sure I didn't forget how. I made it gluten free and it takes more time because you have to mix the different flours together. Next time I think I'm going to try the All purpose GF baking flour. I want to make a GF carrot cake next. Maybe on Friday. I wonder Red Velvet Cakes are so popular these days?? It's certainly is My new favorite for sure.
Okay,I don't have much time, and I want to get this post out before midnight. Sooo......

Day 8 Good News and Bad News

The bad news is, I missed posting yesterday.
The good news is I didn't miss today. I had to go to NYC and wasn't able to post.

My other good news is that I located my Blue Heron online. Thanks to Christi and Libby for responding to my request to locate the yarn. I hope it comes this week because I am out of yarn
and want to get back to my Autumn Vines Stole. I am really enjoying knitting with this yarn.

Okay gotta run I have to catch up on some of my shows, Dexter, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Amazing Race.

Day 6... Remembering

Today marks one year ago that our Brother-- Robert(Bobby to us) passed away. You are still in our thoughts Bro!. This pass year has been trying for some of us. When we think of Bobby, we all can give you a different memory. I remember him most for his sense of humor and great stories. So many times we used to laugh so hard about his adventures from his job. He was known as Mr. Coffee to many. That boy would drink coffee in a 32 ounce cup. Big Gulp's was his other drink of choice, Mountain Dew to be exact. You never saw him with anything less than a 32 ounce cup.

He had a great love for flowers and helped my mom in the garden each year arranging and planting Coleuses(his favorite) and other beautiful seasonal flowers. He was the one designated to water the flowers daily. Sometimes at 3 o'clock in the morning lol. He never missed a day.
Every Sunday he took my Mom to church, they would often go to different Churches throughout the DC area. His and my mom's favorite Church to attend would be St Camillus Catholic in Silver Spring. We often enjoyed their Multicultural Mass at 11 am.

I have so many fond memories of my Brother. Thank you Bobby for enriching our lives with
your presence. Your memory lives on forever!

Day 5... Thinking Thursday

....Congratulations to the Yankees!!! They are the Champions of the World Series for the
27th time!! Sorry Philly, maybe next year.

...I decided all I wanna do is knit. I just need to find the time to make this happen. It gives me such joy and satisfation. Right now I am close to finishing my Autumn Vine Stole. I have 550 yards. It looks like I need another skein and I can't find it anywhere. I purchased this yarn in
Baltimore at "Lovely Yarns" in September. Blue Heron was having a trunk show and I only bought one skein. I did see one person on Ravelry that had this yarn in there stash. I may have
to contact her.

.....Next week I am looking forward to an outing with my girls. We are going to the Friday 13th
big sale at A Tangled Skein. It starts at 9pm to Midnight.

.....I can't wait until my new computer comes. It will be my first laptop. Of course Chelette decided she needed a laptop too!(would you believe she is still celebrating her Birthday, she said she didn't buy herself anything and that she needed one) whateva!

....Last weekend I had the best fried oysters I have had in a long time at Houston's. I can't wait to get them again. I passed on my favorite 5 nut brownie.

......I am happy to report that my granddaughter Kayla is doing remarkably better after being
hospitalized for Asthma. She went back to school for the first time yesterday.

Day 4

Here we are into day four already. I know it's going to go by quickly. Just like this year. Is time speeding up or what! I do believe the older you get the faster times flies. I remember when I was a kid and tried to picture my life in the future. It was impossible, I couldn't even imagine my life beyond the moment I was in.

I am thankful for each and everything that has happened and wouldn't trade it for anything. Once I learned to trust and give it all to God it became easier. When you know HE'S got you, everything becomes more relaxed. I am hopefully able to now enjoy the journey more. Yeah sometimes I forget and loose it. But when I take the time to center and breathe it's like a well played out symphony. I love that!

Funny thing is I didn't know what I was going to write about today, I didn't even know IF I would write, and now that I am writing it feels good. I hope that I can continue to do this for the rest of the month, because it feels like something I need to do or maybe have needed for awhile. Creative juices flowing maybe.

I have always journaled. It has always seemed important to me to write stuff down. From the first time I had a crush on my teacher, to the last time I was depressed and greiving my brothers death. I love buying journals too, must be that shopper in me heheh. I haven't been so good at writing consistantly day by day, but now I realized that's okay for me. I have probably four journals right now that have all different entries at different times. I usually just grab which ever one is closest to me. Or whichever is the newest one I bought.

And then Blogging came along. I have enjoyed being able to capture the moments and post them. Thanks to my sister I don't think I would have started blogging. It's like the memories will be available to enjoy forever. I do feel like I haven't been able to be as free as I would like in my writing. I know that others are reading my words, so it has taken some time for me to get comfortable with knowing that what I write and post others will and do have options on. It's a continuing process for me to be able to allow others in my world. So far I am loving it and getting to know more about myself and others has been so much fun.

Well, who wouldda thought I was gonna write all this today♥ Guess some part of me wants to share with
all of you. It's like having an extended family globally. I get to write and yall get to read, how cool is that.

I would like to know if any of you bloggers out there feel that there is more that you want to share and haven't been able to for what ever reason with the rest of the world. I guess the question is, how personal do we get with blogging?? I guess I'm asking myself this question to as I explore my own desire to write and share with others.

Chelette checking out Lion Brand's window display live model

We left D.C. on Friday, October 9 on the 7:30 Bolt Bus. The weather was cool but clear and dry. We had a great ride. Our bus driver was 15 minutes late, but he made up for the time and got us there by 12pm. We were well on our way after grabbing our first taxi. We checked into the Loews Regency Hotel on Park Avenue, unloaded our bags and were on our way.

The YarnCrawl consisted on 14 stores total and we were not sure how many we would be able to get to but we planned to do our best and cover as many as possible in the 3 days. Our route was planned……

Day One

1. Gotta Knit is all about service. They will hold your hand every step of the way through a project, from ensuring that cast on edge is nice and neat, to writing a custom pattern that will be a perfect fit, to finishing seams.

2. Lion Brand. We were very impressed with this store. The color display and the layout was very well organized. Not to mention the beautiful yarns at bargain prices. There was a live model in the window display knitting and crocheting.

3. Purl SoHo. Cute little shop nestled away in the soho neighborhood. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Koigu choices were endless.

4. Purl Patchwork This was a fabric store, with beautiful fabric for quilting.

5. School Products This was the only store that we weren't to impressed with, and not because they didn't have great yarn or prices. The store was not well organized or updated. I did see some good prices on cashmere. We just didn't expect that it would look like a bargain basement.

6. Habu Textile. We arrived at Habu right when they were closing (6 pm), but they let us look around a bit. Habu gave me the feeling of being in an art gallery. Everything in the front room was displayed low on the floor in baskets --bundles of mohair, linen, cotton, paper, and many other fibers. We will have to hit this store on our next trip because I understand they have another side to the store which we didn’t get to see with lots of unusual fibers.

Day Two
1. String - we really liked this store. Great modern layout. The yarn was displayed so nicely. No clutter at all. If you wanted yarn. They had to go in the stock room to get it for you

2. Amy Ruth’s – Yummy....what a great place for brunch --we had the best chicken and waffles. The Waffles were so light just like I used to make for my kids. The chicken was finger licking GOOD♥ Just talking about it makes my mouth water. Definitely will be a must do on my next trip up.

3. Carol’s Daughter—cant go to NYC without stopping in this store. I love how they have added the mani/pedicure services just wish we had time to take advantage… maybe next time.

4. Knitty City. By this time all the yarn crawlers were out and the store was packed. Even though we were getting tired and feeling like it was time to call it quits, because we were getting crawled out all the excitement gave us the juice we needed to continue on.

5. Yarntopia This was our last stop. This was a nicely decorated store with a great window display. I found some great malabrigo to make a scarf and entered to win the store's contest. By this time it was 6:45 and the store was closing at 7pm (thank goodness because we were tired and our pockets were getting empty)

We did meet some new friends during the trip that were very helpful and gave us great tips about getting around. Thanks so much Laverne, stivel and Pyra . I bought some great stitch markers from Pyra and I was her first customer.

We ended up taking 13 cabs total. The subway was having some major work and we didn't want to venture into any unknown territory. I do think all in all it wasn't that more expensive going the cab route. Next time maybe we can get some of our wonderful NYC bloggers to guide us.

We didn’t make it to Brooklyn on Sunday we decided to relax in the hotel and KNIT. We definitely would do this trip again. The Bolt Bus was great because we got to knit going and coming. What can we say NYC is a great place to visit and definitely have some very nice yarn stores. The only thing we would change next time around maybe to catch a bus or subway, but the cabs worked out just fine especially time wise. There are plenty of great pictures posted here...

I can say for sure that senses are very important to me

1. Smell: I am a big smell person. I love to smell Chocolate
and baked cookies. I also love any natural, organic or
aromatherapy products

2. Touch: I love the feel of cashmere and it's such a
pleasure to knit with

3. Sight: I love the sight of the Ocean and any Nature
scene. I remember the first time I saw the Red
Mountains of Sedona, I fell in Love with it

4. Hearing: I would have to say Listening to the rain and thunder
would be my top.. I also remember the 1st time I saw
Niagara Falls. The sound of that water is amazing

5. Taste: MMMM when I think of taste. First thing that comes to mind is
Sorbet!! I love the taste and texture of it.. My favorite is Lemon and I can't
leave out Chocolate(dark) Now when it comes to taste I have a long
list of things I love.(can you tell FOOD is my favorite subject♥)

We Remember/ Box of Chocolates

Eight years ago, we suffered a great loss. Before that, since then and in years to come we have and will continue to suffer from the misguided decisions and convictions of others. We suffer them abroad and at home, and there often is nothing to do in light of these other than to lick our wounds, learn what we can and move on. These are not circumstances we can have averted, prevented or foreseen. Sometimes, bad things just happen — at the cost of many lives, many separated families and much money, time and effort. Finally Connected/Giveaway

So, if you are reading this it means I finally got my internet connected. First I didn't know if I had a wireless card and then I had to buy a router and an adapter. It cost about $100 bucks altogether. I really didn't suffer to bad because I have a Black Berry and can do almost everything I can do on a computer. I was hoping to get more knitting done but it turns out, that didn't really happen either.

I have however worked my butt off for the past month and didn't get my Saturday's off. I so need a vacation, which is coming up next week. I am taking a short trip to New York. Chelette is also taking a trip to Texas.

Hope everyone is having a good summer. It's has been blazing hot here on the east coast. We haven't had rain in weeks. It does feel like summer is almost over though. Most of the kids go back to school next week.
I am settling in my new place and enjoying my short commute to work. I have been going up to DC for knit night, which is the highlight of my week. A Tangled Skein is have a big sale and I will be checking it out tomorrow.

I am sad that Nurse Jackie and True Blood are coming to an end. I guess I can catch some of the other shows that I missed On Demand. I want to see Hung, Weeds, Californication and Entourage. I so, enjoyed Dexter and can't wait for Season 3. Hawthorne was pretty good too. I am hoping The Ladies Number One Detective Agency come back too. Of course I can count on the Medium and Ghost Whisperer, will always be on. And I never miss Dog Whisperer, Cesar is the MAN!

In knitting news. I am so close to finishing my toe up magic loop
socks it's not funny. Hopefully next week. Chelette has finished
another pair♥ Both are on our ravelry page

So what have we been up to…....

Two of our knitting buddies (Cheryl and Arthella) decided they wanted to get together to learn toe up socks. So we have been meeting periodically and they have really come a long way. They are turning their heels on their toe up socks this weekend. Great job girls. This has sparked us to get back into working on socks too. I am working on Lacy Ribs Socks (2 @ a time) and Chelette is working on a pair of Monkeys. She finished her FLS and just need buttons. Well, we have a new addiction to Yarn. We have been ISO Wollmeise. It started around April when I decided to get some for Chelette’s birthday and then Chelette was able to get some for my birthday. Since then we have learned a lot about the Wollmeise via Ravelry. The yarn is simply beautiful.

We also have been able to get some limited edition Sundara. We love how the updates have changed and are going to be more frequent – I believe every Monday. We fell in love with this yarn via the Seasons sock club.

We will be missing Sock Summit this week. As much as we wanted to be there it just didn’t work out. We couldn’t get any classes – so we didn’t see the point, but plan to get to Seattle/Portland sometime in the near future for sure. Let’s look at it this way we are using Sock Summit money to buy the Sundara and Wollmeise.

One of the reasons I haven’t been posting as frequently is that I finally moved back closer to my job. I am about 10 minutes(if I go real slow) from work and I must say that I do not miss the commute. I have not gotten my internet connected yet so I am way behind on email and keeping up with my blogging friends. I am still going to try to make sit and knit on Wednesdays.

Another reason we haven’t been blogging is Chelette is still celebrating her birthday(hehe…April she has taken a trip every month). Last week she took a trip to Fort Lauderdale. She went with non knitting friends and didn’t get to visit any yarn shops.

Today has been a good day to take out our yarn and see what projects we can assign to yarn we already have. Looks like we have enough yarn to last both of our lifetimes and then some, but who cares. We love it. It is so good to have someone that shares your love for our craft.

I think that’s enough for now. I am sure you missed our Ten on Tuesday, so look for a new one soon.

Hello everyone.... I know, I know... It's been way to long.. At least 2 Tuesdays have passed us by.. I just can't believe how the time is flying... I kid you not.. It's going way to fast for me. Can you believe that it's only 6 more months until Christmas???... Is this what happens when you get older. I don't remember time flying this quickly when I was a kid. The older I get the faster it seems to go. There just aren't enough hours in the day. No time to get all I want done. I have been feeling like a zombie lately, same ole same -- day in and day out. I think I need a vacation, but there are no plans of any on the horizon. Since Sock Summit registration came and went without getting any classes, we have decided not to go. Maybe next year will work out better for us.
I have been knitting on my Brooke Column of Leaves daily and still have quite a ways to go. Chelette is getting closer to finishing the shrug for sister Nerry. We have become such monogamous knitters, can't seem to start anything else right now. We haven't even been to Sit and Knit in weeks. We have missed so much. Thank you Jennifer for always sending a friendly text when we don't show up. Funny how things change.
My newest obsession is watching TV.. I come home plop myself in front and get sucked until bedtime. How did I get so addicted to TV??? It's not like me at all. I am behind on blogging and seeing what everyone is up too. Hope you all are doing well.
We are still in shock about the tragedy of the metro train derailment. Both of our daughters ride the train every single day. They were surprised at all the calls they got from concerned family and friends. Thankfully they were okay and not on any of these trains.

Update: We are mourning Michael Jackson's death big time. I couldn't believe that I didn't have any of his music on my Ipod. But now I do. I have been listening since this happened last week. What a great Legend Michael was and will be missed greatly. I know his music will rock on!

And for the biggest and newest News.. We just had our 2nd year Blogiversary. Soooooooooo.. We have decided to have a contest.. and the prize will be in honor of our great friend and local Dyer Karida of Neighborhood Fiber Co. Karida is leaving our area and moving to Ohio. A couple of months ago her first book came out and we were lucky enough to get a signed copy. So the prizes will be a signed copy of her new book "Pints and Purls" and a skein of her lovely yarn. I am sure there are a few of you that haven't gotten the lucky chance of trying some of this gorgeous yarn out yet. This will be a great opportunity!

My friend Yukiko is from Japan, she has only been here for 2 years and is learning english. She learned to crochet when she was a small child. Since she has been here she taught her self to knit. She shared with me these projects that she made recently. Aren't they beautiful♥

This one is my favorite. She used hemp. It is super strong. It's her own design. I have invited her to join ravelry, I am sure she will find other japanese knitters and crocheters there. Thank you Yuki for sharing that with us. I can't wait to see what else you come up with.

So, I have enjoyed knitting 2 socks at a time. I started this because of the knitalong . I really finished them about a week. I washed then yesterday and they are still big, oh well. I even put them in the dryer, hoping they would shrink some. No luck.
Since completing these, I have found out lots of things I wish I had done after the fact. So I am ready to try another pair to get a better fit. First of all, 64 total stitches was to many for these socks, I think it was because of the Koigu and using size 2 needles. Next time I will use size 1 for this yarn. I can never get the correct size with addi's. I'm not sure if I am knitting looser or not. Normally I am a tight knitter, but it feels like I am knitting looser or maybe it's because I am knitting faster. I hope so♥ I love watching knitters and how they knit. I keep trying to decide what kind of knitter am I. Their is a tread of Ravelry for this and I actually found someone that knits the way I do. Of course I thought I was the only one.

I will do toe up socks again. The biggest problem I seem to have is with the bind off. I had to redo it a couple of times. The best result was with a needle several sizes larger. Now that I'm finished I have found a better bind off, so I will do it on my next pair.. Elizabeth Zimmermans stretchy bind off. Looks easy and I think it will do the trick.
One way or the other I am going to get the perfect pair of socks. I have come to the conclusion that I can enjoy the Journey as well as the destination♥

In Knitting news... I am still working on my 2@time socks, just started the legs. I made it this far. Now I can't take it any more. I have separated them. I think I like magic loop better. I fought those needles so much. I even mistakenly knitted the wrong yarn on the wrong sock..I will be just happy when they are finished. I got the lace pattern from my new Wendy Johnson, 'Socks from the Toe Up' Diagonal Lace Sock Pattern. I am loving this book. I want to make a lot of them. I was lucky enough to get a signed copy from her book signing at Knit Happens.

These bands make me think about a oldies band that I use to play to death that I forgot about and recently heard and it brought back so many memories of my younger days.so of course I searched on You Tube to see if I could find . I couldn't find the song that I wanted . It's called, "You and I", Bet yall don't remember this group 'Switch'... I think they only had one album. This was also a good song and will have to do for now.

It was a beautiful day all and all even though they predicted that it was going to be rainy all day. The sun came out and we took our time. First was the Ravelry Meet-Up. It was awesome meeting with friends that we hadn't seen since last MDSW. There were also new friends to meet too.
This was our 3rd MDSW Festival. I am proud of myself that I only went $25.00 over my budget.
Chelette was even better than me and only bought one skein for herself. She is making a shrug for another sister and found the perfect yarn for it. Now it's time to get serious and start knitting. I am almost finished my 2at a time socks on circular needles. Now I am starting to think about my next project. It might be another pair of socks or a sweater. I haven't decided yet.
I think I would have to agree with JavaJen and saying that next to the fiber, the best thing about MDSW is meeting all the Friends that come out.♥

since it applies to me.. My B-day is next month and I am starting
to feel like a old lady.(Chelette's is next week).

Here goes my 10 anywho.

1. Forgetfulness...You know, when you go into one room and come
out not remembering what you went in their for.

2. When you call your kids and call them every name you can think of
but the right one.

3. When your all time favorite tv shows are those most have never
heard of.

4. When you can't sleep on your stomach or side, because when
you wake up,, it will take awhile to get outta bed without pain.

5. When you finally get to sleep you only sleep about 4 or 5
hours the whole night and you no longer take naps from noon to 6 PM.

6. When someone you think is old,, calls you old

7. When you think anything below 69 degrees is to cold

8. You like watching the weather channel

9. When you're asked if you want to use your senior citizens discount

10. You go to CVS for ibuprofen, antacids and Ben Gay
instead of Kotex and tampons

Hello everyone.. Just a short post to say we're still alive. I have been waiting for something blogworthy to post about, but not much has been going on. Unlike my girl Carol, who has been blogging up a storm lately... way to go girl... I know you have to strike when the juices are flowing... So, I was thinking.....I could blog about all the projects that I recently found in the back of the closet, that are unfinished. I could blog about the cute little sock keychain Darcy made me or.. I could blog about my Clapotis that I just finally finished. Maybe, I could blog about MDSW being just around the corner. Or how about blogging about how much fun I am having trying to figure out patterns for all the newly acquired yarn we got last month. Oh well, I will have to settle for this post for now. I will be back with a more later. Oh and be on the look out for a CONTEST coming soon... we are in the mood to send out some Yarn Love to some lucky person♥

Stimulating the Economy................

How?? You buy yarn! There were three yarn parties all in one weekend and we went to all three, yes all three. hahahaha. It started out at A Tangled Skein with the Friday the 13th party. Lots of knitters, food and best of all the yarn was 20% off until midnight. While hanging out at the party our dear friend Susan B told us that Knit Happens was celebrating their 5 year anniversary with a yarn sale and party on Saturday. We decided to check out the sale and it was everything and more than we had even dreamed of – they had Jade Sapphire Cashmere for 70% off –Debbie Bliss Donegal Tweed 50% off –Schaeffer silk 40% off and to top it off the books and patterns were 50% off….

Here we are day 3 headed to the Homespun Yarn party in Savage Mills which we had already planned to attend –we had to pinch ourselves to see if it was real. Could there really be another yarn party --we haven’t had this much fun since MDSW/Stitches. We got some really nice handspun yarns. It was interesting to see some of the same people at all three parties. Also, we met Claudia and Denise, two ladies that read our blog. More photos on cici's flicker and cj's flicker.

The parties are over and we decided that we have stimulated our STASH and hope that we have done our part in stimulating the ECONOMY and there will be no more YARN buying until MDSW! Thanks for a great weekend. Now it's time to start knitting♥

Chicago

Last week, my boss surprised me with a trip to Chicago which included 2 tickets to the Oprah Winfrey Show. Yes, Oprah. I could not believe it. When I heard her say 2 tickets and then it clicked…. I was like, oh wow, are you serious? I need at least 6 more tickets. Then as we sat and talked about who I would take with me…of course the likely candidate to go would be my daughter. I of course wanted to take everybody --sisters and girlfriends, but there was no way we could get more tickets. The tickets to Oprah are almost impossible to come by. As I thought about it I didn’t want to tell anyone I was going. You know that feeling –let’s not jinx it, because if you tell -- it might not happen. That is what I was feeling, especially since the confirmation letter from Harpo says no show is 100% guaranteed.

We arrived safely in Chicago on Thursday afternoon to very cold temperatures. We had dinner that night at Table 52. If you just happen to follow our President, then the name of the restaurant may sound familiar because this is where he and the First Lady had dinner on Valentine’s Day. Also, the hostess let us know that we were sitting in the exact same seats that the Obama’s sat in on February 14th. How nice was that. The food was excellent!

The Grouper was seasoned and cooked just right.

Our tickets were for the Friday taping at 11:00 am and we had no idea what the show was going to be about. . Laurin’s only hope was that it not be Dr. Oz. LOL… I didn’t care who or what the show was going to be about …. I was in the audience of OPRAH. Everything was very well organized. We were not allowed to keep the camera or cell phone with us. Security checked them at the door with our coats. It was amazing to be there after watching Oprah for so many years on TV. Oprah looked like Oprah. The studio seemed really small, but it does seat 300 people. We had great seats on the 2nd row of the 2nd tier. It will be interesting to see if we make it on what gets aired. The show was on Internet Predators. It was interesting and sad but so true to hear how dangerous the computer can be for some people. John Walsh/America’s Most Wanted was one of the guests. We don’t know when the show will be aired, but the DVR is already set to tape Oprah everyday. We were there until after 3:00 but it was all worth it.

We had to wait in line with 300 other people.....

Oprah has her "O"randomly placed all around the studio....

Laurin is sitting in Oprah's chair from the 90's. They have it sitting in her store and that is the only place you can take a picture.

I was browsing in the Oprah's Store.. She has some nice things, but I had Suze Orman in my ear saying -- do you need it or do you just want it.. Thanks Suze.

After Oprah we went to Heaven on Seven for dinner. I had to go there because of the oysters.

After Heaven on Seven... guess where we went..... hahahahaha to the YARN STORE. Loopy Yarns was a really nice yarn store and they were having sit and knit night and also a SALE. Check this out they were open until 9:00 pm. I picked up a couple of skeins of the Misti Alpaca bulky yarn. I regret now that I did not get any of the Lorna Laces that was on sale. I just could not wrap my mind around buying yarn and no project in mind. NOTE TO SELF... next time take patterns with me.

Glad we went to the yarn store Friday night because we woke up to this on Saturday. SNOW.

Laurin got to visit with her friend Morgan who now lives in Chicago.

We had a great couple of days in Chicago and hopefully the next time we visit it will be a little warmer.....

Catching Up

I am going to use this post to catch up on a few things that we have been meaning to get out. Is it me or does it seem like this year is speeding along. We are halfway through February already. I have been meaning to post, but seems like time just gets away from me. I have been working on my Clapotis now since Jan 1.

I am a little more than halfway. I really enjoy knitting it and I am happy with the progress. I love knitting with the Sundara yarn. I plan to do another one when I finish, but with thicker yarn and bigger needles. It's a fun pattern and easy to follow. I love dropping the stitches. Chelette has since finished hers. I have also completed three hats. 2 Porom and one 1. Serapo. Chelette has completed 5 hats too (2 Porom, 1 Serapo, 1 Spiral Rib, 1 Star Crossed Beret)

I miss knitting socks, I have a few that are still on the needles and need to be completed. Chelette is ringing circles around me completing socks these days.

I was happy to get a new blog design, but I don't know the first thing about how to make changes. I am afraid that if I change something and it doesn't turn out, I won't know how to fix it back. If someone can tell me how you get large pictures to post I would be appreciative.I won a contest..

"When will I run out of yarn". Thank you!!!! Mary over at Snit n' Knit for the lovely Classic Elite yarns Fresco and Classic one Fifty. That was fun. She has a lovely blog and I enjoy reading her happening in NYC. Go pay her a visit.

My sister Nerry has been doing a great job so far with learning how to knit, but now she has taken on a large project. Her son who just got married a few months ago is expecting his first child in June and she wants to make the baby a blanket. It has taken sometime for her to finally pick out the right pattern. Now she is well on her way after about 5 attempts. I hope this last one is the final one. Wednesday we helped her get it started and this time we decided to make it all garter stitch. How can you go wrong with knit every row. She has 5 colors to make it more interesting. I am excited that she is willing to take on this big project and that it will be an awesome present for her son and grand baby.

I have one more month to pay for my car. It seems now it decides to act up. Weird things have been happening to it. I am praying that it will last at least another 5 years, ~~never mind the fact that it has over 130k miles and that I travel over 120miles a day.~~

Last week Chelette's office got a King Cake from a client. I had heard about this from some blog friends, Patrice and Adrienne to be exact. They were talking about it on twitter. I had never heard about it. I didn't get a chance to taste it but I hear it's soooo good. Chelette got some pictures and it looks like Kevin became the King for a day. I heard Cynthia from Acynfulmind mention this on her podcast yesterday. I am always a bit late to the game. Apparently it's very popular.

Our yarn clubs have been coming in and the yarns are lovely. Neighborhood Fibers, Sundara, Cables and Lace, and StitchDC’s Stash Club

Because of our baby sis Nerry,,, there is has much activity on Facebook lately. Another thing to suck your time away. It's fun to see what's going on with folks.

I managed to do some beading while watching a movie last week. I love beading because you can finish it a lot quicker than knitting. I have bought a kit to start a crewel embroidery project. That's all I'll say about that as if I need another hobby.

I did a test knit project for AmyO 2 weeks ago. It was fun and easy to complete. It’s called the Cosmopolitan Cowl.

I am enjoying my podcast lately. My newest is Dr Gemma at Cogknitive. She talks and blathers about really good informative psychological stuff, and give good strategies for life. She also talks about what's on her needles at the time. Cognitive psychology is a mental process that shows how people think, perceive, remember and learn. She helps you internalize with problem solving that you can use in your everyday life. There is a ravelry Cogknitve group that you can join as well.

I have been eating only organic meats lately. They taste so much better and I know they are healthier. I can't give up meat. I did that back in the day and the first time I went to my mom’s house for a Sunday dinner and smelled fried chicken cooking that was the end of being a vegetarian for me.

I have been obsessed with making Red Velvet Cake. I am finally satisfied with the recipe. It is so delicious and I make it gluten-free. You can hardly taste the difference. I even made gluten-free banana nut bread that taste pretty good. Next I want to try Carrot Cake gluten free.

A few days ago I dreamed about yarn and a pattern. … have yall done that before? It was this awesome entrelac vest and I think it was in noro. I want to make one soon while it's still fresh in my mind.

My new friend Darcy is home recovering from surgery and I hope you feel better soon girl!! big ((hugs to you))..You are in my thoughts. Oh and Happy Anniversary to you and hubby.

I also want some woolmeise........... soooo bad... Does anybody know where I can get some? I haven't a clue, except for the yarn club and that is way outta my price range.

One more question.. Yall know I am old, but I was thinking about this yesterday,,, what do the young people say to each other when they want to ask someone will you be my boyfriend or girlfriend?? Back in my day we use to say..." Will you go with me??" Surely they don't say that any more do they?? What's the updated version these days.. Curious minds wanna know..

ROAD TRIP..................

My girlfriend, Yolanda and I started out Friday morning on a road trip to Charlotte, NC, well let me just say we didn’t get too far and OMG we were not even over the 14th Street Bridge and we heard a really loud pop. We looked at each other and were like WTH, she pulled over on the shoulder of Interstate 395 South, yes the shoulder, a very scary spot. As we started to make a few calls, DC’s finest pulled up and asked if there was a problem. He then stopped traffic to get us to a much safer place. I must say Officer Anderson was a Godsend. He not only put us in a safer place, he also changed the tire. Let me also mention this was a rental car, which we were not about to drive with a donut on it, so the other great part of this story -- we were one exit away from the rental car place – now how good was that, our Angels were watching over us.. So, in the name of Cici, who would have killed me if I didn’t take pictures and blog about this

Well I am happy to report we made it to Charlotte safely. Our trip was for Yolanda to visit her Godmother Lula who had been moved to Hospice this past week, well sadly enough Lula took a turn for the worst and her fight is now over and she has no more suffering. Despite all of this Yolanda is doing okay and she was able to spend time with her cousin.

Behind the scenes CiCi was arranging my visit to the LYS Charlotte Yarn -- which happens to be Crimson Purl’s favorite yarn store. Just so happened everything worked out and we met Stacey that afternoon. And of course, you can’t pass up the opportunity to visit a new yarn store. Even though Yolanda, who is a NON knitter, but as she says she knows when we travel together, I will want to go to the yarn store gave me a time limit in the store, was very nice about it, because of course I went a little over.......BTW, she picked out some yarn and one day--yes one day it will become a FO for her.

Stacey is as nice in person --as she is on her blog. She was very hospitable and it was such a pleasure to meet her. She showed me around and pointed out the unique yarns and helped me pick out some for CiCi. We really had a great visit with her would love to do it again and next time take CiCi.

Okay,, thanks to Nan from Nannybird Crafts is asking us to spread the Love. Of course I agree, there can never be enough of it. There aren't any specific rules. I just wanted a good reason to post. I am very happy with the new look on the blog here. Thanks to Hélènina she has done a good job of expressing what we wanted here. I love the colors and the layout. If you are interested in having her create a new look for you check her out. I first saw her work on Darcy's blog. We had the same old look for over a year, so we thought it was time. I am very thankful to have found so many new friends since having this blog. Now since you can add the follow me on blog I can keep up with many of you. I have my favorites and each day adding more. So let's spread the love. I think Stacey of CrimsonPurl was the first blog I started to read. It was not long before I started having a list of blogs I just had to keep up with. Now the list is growing daily. I love to check out and see what everyone is up to. Sometimes it's to my detriment, because it takes away from my knitting time. I am trying to learn to have some balance.

A Good Cause

I have wanted some forever. I think I missed my chance to get some at Stitches last year. I saw everyone that had some and I did not even know that it was available for purchase until after wards. I have tried the Loopy Ewe, but I can't click the refresh button fast enough apparently. So maybe I will get lucky and win some. It looks like that's my only option at this point. I couldn't believe how badly the yarn(sundara) got tangled around itself, but it was late and I decided sleep might help. So first thing in the a.m. I was back at it. I have to say things did look hopeful and I was eager to give it another try. So, it started off looking like it wasn't going to happen and that I would need to cut the yarn and start all over again. After a few attempts, I began to think maybe there was hope. An hour later I finally got it untangled. I think that the content of the silk and the merino made it difficult. It looks like the outter piece had caught onto the inner piece and they kept twisting around together until it was a tangled messed. I don't know how it got this way. When I wound the yarn on the swift I didn't have any problems or signs that something would go wrong. Having 500 yards didn't help. It was a close call and I have learned my lesson. Next time I am going to really pay attention when winding large amonts into cakes. Has this ever happen to you? Any good tips on winding yarn and keeping it tangle free I welcome:)

Chelette's clapotis, Malabrigo silk merino, in section 4I am really liking this pattern. I know we are late to the game. This pattern has been around for years. It is easy to knit and remember. I am already thinking about what yarn I will use next.

Recently I won the prize from Knit Fiber's contest Daisy Mum Check out her etsy shop. The prize was to pick one item from her shop. I chose the Knitted Fair Isle or Duplicate Stitch Peace Bracelet. It pretty cool and I am so happy. She also have some great patterns for sale, like pumpkins, hearts, soccer, knitted candy and a pink ribbon, and many more.

New Post...

I was so tired of looking at that post, I had to change it. I don't have much to say, but I am posting anyway. I had this great idea of doing a review post for 2008, but it feels like to much work right now. So this is what you get. A short and sweet post about not posting. ~~Maybe a review post will come but just not today heehee~~

Stay tuned because things are going to get better around here. That's all I can say about it for now. I have lots of ideas in my head, but they require work. I have been off for a few days and I am enjoying just sitting around doing not much. I have been knitting though. I am almost finished my Serapo hat and half way through my Porom hat. So pictures to follow.

I am also getting excited about the next holidays coming. Jan 19 and 20th. Martin Luther King Day and the presidental election. It's a good way to start off 2009. Looks like it's going to be here before you know it. Why does it feel like time is speeding up, maybe it's just me. Christmas came and went without a pause. Now let's see how fast the rest of the year will go. All I can say is enjoy it all!!! Do what you love doing!!! and make the most of every minute you can!!! Life is short. I am not making any resolutions this year. One day at a time.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!

I can't even believe another Christmas is here already, where did the time go. It feels like it was just here. Time is going so fast for me. Every year I say I am going to get in gear and start early and get all my shopping done before December. Every year I get down to chrunch time and I get so overwelmed. So this year is like all the previous years.... I'M NOT READY FOR CHRISTMAS YET!!!!!. Of course time doesn't stop for me. I guess I have to suck it up and face the fact that it's December 20th and next week this time Christmas will be over!!. You would think I have had enough years in my lifetime to be better at this. Christmas is my second favorite holiday(Thanksgiving is my 1st). Again I put my leave in to late to get off, so I have to work the day after Christmas when most federal employees will be off. I am hoping the weather cooperates and we don't have any significant precipitation. I only enjoy the snow if I can sit at home and watch it.

I was tagged by Darcy and Michelle awhile back...here my list Random facts about me:

1. I love the internet, but it's my downfall. I spend way to much time and don't get in enough knitting time. ~~If only there were more hours in the day.~~
2. I am a snacker. I am statisfied with eating small portions, mostly nuts, cheese and CHIPS(can you tell I love chips).
3. I love cooking, but I don't get to do it as often as I like. I think when you don't cook as often, you get out of practice. I use to bake more. Now when I want to bake something I have to make it a couple of times before I feel it's ready to share with others.
4. I like cats, but from a distance. Our cat is so needy. So I know I don't give her as much attention as she wants. When I come in the house she doesn't run to meet me at the door like she does to my daughter, but every chance she gets she is trying to win me over.
5. I am trying to be a monogamous knitter, but it's isn't working out so good. I can start a new project at the drop of a hat. Just this a.m. I was suppose to be working on my Serapo hat and I forget and left it in the car, I found it as a perfectly good reason to cast on for Porom, by Brooklyn Tweed.
6. We would never had started this blog if it wouldn't have been for my sister Chelette. Thanks to her I have grown in ways I know I never would have before. I can think of a few folks that would be so good at blogging, ~~of course you can only hope. They won't listen to me.~~ It's been a year and a half now. I am happy that it is a part of my life now. I have met some wonderful people. I know you all would agree, Knitters Rawk!!!!!Many thanks to all of you. Have a wonderful and Blessed Christmas.

In other news. Chelette finished her Serapo Hat and Porom Hat(Ravelry links).I am still working on my Serapo. I just casted on for Porom. So good so far, I hope I can finish it for a Christmas gift, wish me luck. The pictures are on flickr here, here and here

Ten on Tuesday/Weekend

I was in Chapel Hill for the past weekend. I also went to Durhram. I was lucky enough to go to Cozy's. It was a miracle how I got to go there. I was staying with some friends and they decided to take a ride to Durham for some shopping. Before we left I did a quick search to see if there were any yarn shops. I found Cozy's and didn't think I would get to go there. Luckily we went on Nineth Street to do the shopping and I didn't even realize that was where Cozy's was. While they shopped I headed down to 770 and found Cozy's. I can't believe how happy that made me. I didn't tell them, becuase they are non yarn folks. I managed to meet some cool knitters there and they were both making Clapotis. Amazingly that's what my next project is going to be.

Nissa greeted me at the door and Randi showed me the yarn section.

I think I will save it for a Christmas present:D

The minute I saw this I had to post it. They are the most adorable ever! I wanted a reason to post and I knew when I saw them, it would happen. We use to have a shar-pei/pug and he is no longer with us. His name was Smokey Joe. Don't you just want to take one home with ya?? NOT... sorry I love them, but don't want to own them.

I subscribed to this awhile ago. This is the first time I am reponding to it.

1.Repurposing existing knitted items you already own. A sweater that is no longer in style can be updated with knitted embellishments, needle felting, duplicate stitch designs, and/or embroidery. If you still love the yarn, consider unraveling it to make something else.

2. Learn to knit from friends, knitters are always happy to teach others to knit. A knitting group can be more fun, cheaper (free, in fact), potentially more creative and there will always be someone to help you. Handmade these days is getting very popular.

4. Turn to your stash instead of yarn shopping for your next project.

5.Knit for those less fortunate. No matter how bad you have it, there is always someone worse off than you. Take a few minutes out of your knitting time budget and knit for your favorite cause. Pay it forward.

6. Knitting gives you the skill to mend, accessorise or enhance clothes instead of just throwing them away. Not only does this save you cash, but it is one of the most eco-minded things you can do with your wardrobe.

7. You can easily save money by buying bargain basement yarn and needles at street markets or charity shops. handmade knitted items often last longer than high street alternatives.

8. Once you learn to read patterns, you can make your own, break away from the traditional methods. Discard traditional knitting patterns and make it up as you go along!

10 RULES FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER AT MY HOUSE

1. Don't get in line asking questions about the food. "Who made the potato salad? Is it egg in there? Are the greens fresh? Is the meat in the greens turkey or pork? Who made the macaroni and cheese? What kind of pie is that? Who made it? Ask one more question and I will punch you in your mouth, knocking out all your fronts so you won’t be able to eat anything.

2. If you can't walk or are missing any limbs, sit down until someone makes your plate for you. Dinner time is not the time for you to be independent. Nibble on the pecans and walnuts to hold you over until someone makes you a plate.

3. If you have kids under the age of twelve, I will escort them to the basement and bring their food down to them. They are not gonna tear my house up this year. Tell them that they are not allowed upstairs until it's time for Uncle Butchie to start telling family stories about their mommas and papas.

4. There is going to be one prayer for Thanksgiving dinner! JUST ONE! We do not care that you are thankful that your 13 year old daughter gave birth to a healthy baby or your nephew just got out of jail. Save that talk for somebody who gives a hoot. The time limit for the prayer is one minute.

5. Finish everything on your plate before you go up for seconds! If you don't, you will be cursed out and asked to stay your greedy behind home next year!

6. BRING YOUR OWN TUPPERWARE!! Don't let me catch you fixing yourself a plate using my good Tupperware knowing good and well that I will never see it again! Furthermore, if you didn't bring anything over, don't let me catch you making a plate period or it will be a misunderstanding.

7. What you came with is what you should leave with!! Do not leave my house with anything that doesn't belong to you. EVERYBODY WILL BE SUBJECTED TO A BODY SEARCH COMING AND GOING OUT OF MY DOMAIN!!!

8. Do not leave your kids so you can go hopping from house to house. This is not a DAYCARE CENTER! There will be a kid-parent roll call every ten minutes. Any parent that is not present at the time of roll call, your child will be put outside until you come and get him or her. After 24 hours, I will call DHS on you.

9. BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM BEFORE YOU COME INTO TOWN!! There will be no sleeping over at my house! You are to come and eat dinner and take your behind home or to your hotel room. EVERYBODY GETS KICKED OUT AT 11:00 pm. You will get a 15 minute warning bell ring.

10. Last but not least! ONE PLATE PER PERSON!! This is not a soup kitchen. I am not trying to feed your family until Christmas dinner! You will be supervised when you fix your plate. Anything over the appropriate amount will be charged to you before you leave. There will be a cash register at the door. Thanks to Cousin Alfred and his greedy family, we now have a credit card machine! So VISA and MASTERCARD are now being accepted. NO FOOD STAMPS OR ACCESS CARDS ...YET! :-)

Well, it happened. It wasn't that hard, in fact it was real easy. I was NOT able to post daily. I thought it would be easy, but it wasn't. I just can't think of a thing to write about. I keep coming up blank. I sure do admire folks who can post everyday. How do they do it? I have been listening and thinking and waiting for some inspiration, something that seems worthy of reading and I keep coming up short for what seems like days now.

This morning I woke up and didn't even know what day it was. I freaked out because I couldn't remember why I was home and if I need to call into work for being late. I was so lost. It took awhile to figure it out that today is Saturday, my day off. Thank goodness for that. I think I need a vacation soon. This coming week I am off a few days. I know I need it.

So that's it, exactly, I am writing about my lack of not being able to think of a topic that is blogworthy. I'm not sure if my brother's death has anything to do with it or not. I have been thinking a lot about him these past days. I know that sometimes after a death, grief can get the best of you. This is the first time I have had someone this close to me die at such a young age. It just feels sad. I don't feel like I am my usual self. I know it's important to deal with grief. I haven't wanted to talk about it much. I don't want to push the pain away or run away from it. I feel like I need to deal with it and work through it. Everything happens for a reason, I may not see why yet, but I accept that it happens. I am learning to accept that it was his time. In the whole scheme of things, I know that death is an inevitable part of life. I know that I will always love him, and miss him very much. I think emotionally it hasn't completly registered yet. It has given me a lot to think about. I feel like I need to truly appreciate and embrace the joys in my life and also feel it's an opportunity for my heart to grow stronger. I think this has allowed me to be more sensitive and understanding to the suffering of others. So I am doing my best to get through this. I am giving myself time. I feel that if I can talk about it or write about it, it might help me, and it might help lessen the grief for someone that is going through the same thing.

As I am writing this, it becomes clearer. I guess I do have a few things to say. I guess I needed to write it down to figure it out. I know that many others have lived through loss and survived and that I can too. Yes I can, and I will.

Enough of my boo-hooing for now. On a lighter note, my biggest knitting project (my CPH) is so near completion I can almost feel it! I went to G St Fabrics to pick out my buttons. The selection was slim, but I was able to pick something out. Chelette, on the other hand, was not so lucky. She didn't bring her swatch of yarn with her and couldn't make a decision. So now I just need to finish the band, put the buttons on and then I will be DONE! YAY!!!! I am sooo ready to move on to my next knitting project, ~~just the thought of it gives me a jolt of excitement. I'm not so sure what it's going to be yet, but as soon as I know, you will know.~~ I have been missing knitting socks, so maybe that's what I will do next. I have been obsessing at the moment with is this and this ever since I saw them. I also need to update my Ravelry project page. Okay I'm rambling..
